Our Story

Our story is every parent’s worst nightmare come to life. In the spring of 2003, after getting our infant daughter through major open heart surgery for a congenital heart defect, the unthinkable happened. Within weeks, our daughter, Keira, aged 8 months, and our son Ryan, aged 4 years, were simultaneously diagnosed with different kinds of leukemia. No family history, no environmental exposure, no known genetic problem, nothing that could explain why this tragedy happened. Our faith and our lives were shaken to the very core. The nightmarish rollercoaster that our lives had become was screaming in an ever-increasing downward spiral, and there was no way to stop it – our definition of unbearable changed everyday.
